“Moderation is the key-note of lasting enjoyment.”
says an American clergyman and theological writer – Hosea Ballou.
Even the Holy Scriptures emphasises the need for moderation in our deeds and actions. “Let your moderation be made known to all men”
But just what does moderation mean?
Simply put it means keeping within reasonable limits i.e presupposing that there are limits an upper and a lower in any aspect of life’s continuum. These limits mark the boundary or threshold beyond which one ventures into excesses.
There are many aspects of life where this holds true. Be it sleep, laugh, play, love, fun, sex, alcohol use, e.t.c. Latest research into the possible reasons for longevity reveals this life long secret of moderation. It is reported that eating moderately or indeed caloric restriction is the single most important environmental factor to long life.
Moderately also passes for Keeping within reasonable limits. Think of it as safe ground for living. Because that one word holds the key to longevity, and not only that but enjoying life maximally. Eat moderately. Exercise moderately. Sleep, think, laugh, play, and love moderately. Follow those directions, and you won’t live moderately. You’ll live exceptionally.
