Is there any healing in the word of God?
In Luke chapter 4:18-19, Jesus read from the book of Isaiah.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”
The ministry of Jesus when He was on this earth included the healing of various manners of sicknesses and diseases including broken hearts. Jesus was not a physically trained physician however he was the greatest of healers. There was healing in His words, His touch and even the hem of His garment. The scriptures record that people got their healing from even the gaze and walking through the shadow of His followers. As it happened in those days, even so testimonies abound in the present day across the world. Just as Faith (Heb 11:1) is important ingredient to the process, so is forgiveness. (Luke11:4)
The word broken-hearted refers to how we can be hurt or broken in our thoughts, feelings or emotions. It means the circumstances and events of life that can hurt us and shatter the wholeness of our spirits. Our hearts can be broken in any memory where there is emotional pain or negative emotions. Our hearts are broken in situations marked with loss; this is perceived and then interpreted in pain, anger, resentment, hatred, un-forgiveness or bitterness. The human heart can also become broken at the remembrance of any such memories where there is perceived shame, guilt, regret or sorrow.
The scriptures have provision for every manner of healing and that includes means by which our broken hearts can be mended wholly. Not only our broken hearts but also a lot of our physical or mental health problems too. Whether we want to believe this or not, negative emotions emanate from our perceptions most of the time and these negative emotions can cause physical and mental health problems if we do not deal with them in a timely manner. We do not have to live in the bondage of negative emotions. Jesus has provided a way by which we can be healed from our negative emotions from the past, in the present and even in the future. For in Jesus Christ all things consist that includes our healing.
Jesus’ healing is found in the principles of repentance, forgiveness and letting go of hurt. When we choose to forgive those who have hurt us in any way, the anger, hatred, resentment and bitterness is removed from us. And the heaviness of the hurt and pain lifts from our hearts. Our choices in everyday events are crucial here! The fact is that we can choose to forgive what is happening today and purpose to forgive even what will happen tomorrow and in the future.
Repentance will free you from all the shame, guilt, regret, and sorrow in your memories. When we repent, Jesus is faithful to cleanse us and make us clean. When He forgives He forgets about our sins. If He can do this for us despite all our shameful acts, how come we cannot forgive hurt from other people? If mercy and healing is to be sought from God then it must be shown to others.
In the Lord’s Prayer the scriptures seem to suggest that we get forgiveness from God for our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Forgiveness sets you free from the bondage of the negative emotions. It does not set the person who hurt you free but you. Every one will answer to God for their sins. God is just and fair, and every act of commission or omission will be answered for.
The scriptures make it clear that when we choose not to forgive others then it makes it doubtful if we ever experienced the forgiveness of our own sins by God. (Mark 11:24-26)
To forgive others is a choice we have to make. If you need that healing that bad, should there be any ought that is so great that you cannot let go? Ask yourself that question. Is your healing not worth much more than that resentment, hurt or pain caused?
By the stripes of Jesus’ wounds we are healed. However you must first accept His grace for salvation. Jesus declared on the cross of
The root causes of diseases have been linked to a break down of the relationship with God, with yourself and with others. Jesus taught that the law is summed in these two:
Thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, strength and thy entire mind; and thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. Matt 22:37-39.
The point of full reconciliation with God, yourself and others is the point where our healing begins. So in this coming New Year consciously decide to be in a position of full reconciliation with everyone before you start your healing journey. Walking in unforgiveness and not letting go of ought prevents God’s blessing into your life particularly in the area of healing which is part of your blessings to enjoy!
