Jesus declared at about the time of His departure from the earth, that He will not leave his disciples comfortless. He would send a comforter in the person of the Holy Spirit who will be a teacher, a helper, a guide and who will empower them from within, give them insight, lead them into all truth. That promise is applicable to every believer on the face of the earth today! The Holy Spirit is the third person of the trinity and He shares in the God head deity. He is a free gift to any one who sincerely ask for Him from God.
Following this promise, at the Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came and the lives of the disciples never remained the same.
The Holy Spirit is present even today in the life of every true believer who has received Jesus into their lives and who has received the Holy Spirit as a free gift.
From time past there has always been significance associated with the the Holy Spirit, Anointing and oil. Often Olive oil is the symbolic substance used in anointing procedures.
As we see in 1 Samuel 16:13, David’s head was anointed with oil by the prophet Samuel and his destiny was forever changed to follow along a divine path. The process of anointing signifies empowerment. It brings a spiritual awakening to that which is God’s divine purpose. The ultimate direction became apparent in David’s life after this simple exercise. It was as if a light bulb was switched on from that moment on wards.
Sometime last year, my desire was to know God’s divine will, purpose, and direction for my life. I believe that we all reach a stage such as this at one time or another. At such moments, one thing that is important is to have an anointing exercise. Indeed it is important to regularly anoint your life and that of members of your family, especially, your children.
What is the significance of anointing me and my loved ones, you may ask?
Ruth 3:3 helps us understand the import and effects of this exercise.
In this story line, Naomi was advising her daughter in-law, Ruth on what to do to get the attention (favour) of a respectable man in the society. As you well know earlier in the story, Ruth’s husband who was Naomi’s son had died childless. But even at that, Ruth was not going to leave Naomi. She chose to live and remain with Naomi.
Naomi, an experienced and Godly woman was advising her daughter in-law on how to go about this task in a most dignified way. Naomi in helping to redeem Ruth’s situation, she also helped herself. A survivor, she was; A lady who mastered her problems and learned to trust God amidst sore adversity. Did it pay off? Surely it did. Her later years was a happy one in that Ruth successfully carried out the plan coined by Ruth and won favour before this man, to whom she bore a son, Obed. In the lineage of our Lord Jesus Christ, Obed is the grandfather to King David. Tell me God has no hand in such wonderful master-plan? The anointing has power that is beyond physical and supernatural laws that we know of.
Just how do I do this?
First you need to realize where you are. By this I mean that you will need to appreciate you are accountable for your own choices, mistakes and shortcomings. Be ready and willing to cleanse yourself, spirit, soul and body.
Secondly you must rise up above whatever helpless situation you may be in. Be willing to approach God from a ground zero state. This is because His grace is forever sufficient for you.
Thirdly you will then anoint yourself. When you come to Jesus just as you are He is willing to accept you unconditionally. He cleanses you and re-wires your DNA into that of a new creation (2nd Corinthians 5:17). How about that? He remembers no more of your old nature! Anytime He sees you, He sees a brand new you made in His likeness and image.
At that point where you make a conscious choice to follow God’s path, then whatever God has for you will find you wherever you are. (Isaiah1:19). You have to be willing and obedient to God as your shepherd. As God sees your heart desires, He releases that special anointing.
This anointing will attract you to what God has divinely purposed for you by the person of the Holy Spirit. God schedules the right timing, sequence and order of events. He will shake you out of your comfort zone if need be; and He will divinely orchestrate all the events such that the necessary people will begin to cross your life path. That is the awesomeness of the God that we serve!
He has made every provision available to you. All you need to do is ask.
God’s anointing calibrates your life, preparing and positioning you unto all good works for His glory and praise. The anointing will quicken you to intensified prayers, re-order your priorities and fortify your mind and spirit to accelerated outcomes.
It is a time to be patient for God to do all the work He deems necessary, for by no flesh shall any man please God. Be still, wait and rest in His presence. God is not a man to lie. All He has promised will surely come to pass.
The story of Prophet Elisha and the widow in II Kings 4:1-7 describes how rather mundane things can have significant change in value by reason of the anointing. The prophet shows up in the midst of economic hardship for this widow. Such as is known and felt across the land today, or may be even slightly worse.
The widow arises above human pride and tells the man of God her predicament – (indebtedness, near solvency and a totally hopeless and helpless state). Does that sound familiar? The man of God asked the widow, “What shall I do for you?” “What do you have in your house?” Note the line of questioning, the start point is exactly at where the widow was, not what she did not have or hopes to have; what do you have in your house? The question is specific, direct and clear enough for the widow to answer accordingly, directly, specifically and with a clear purpose (outcome) in her mind she replied. “Your maidservant has nothing but a jar of oil” The prophet of God then asked her to go and borrow vessels from everywhere, from all her neighbours-again specifying, he added –“empty vessels, not a few”. God is interested in you irrespective of where you are. He is asking you today, what do you have in your house? The widow had only but a jar of oil, what she did not know was that in that jar laid her miracle to plenty and abundance.
That jar of oil was sufficient enough to keep the widow recession-proof. That jar of oil plus the anointing was more than enough for her. The oil signifies the presence, power and provision of God through the person of the Holy Spirit. All the while she thought she had nothing, she did not know that all that she needed to solve her debt problems and provide for her needs and those of her son was in her house. It took the moment of divine eye opening for her to see the potential which lay dormant in her house. The anointing is the unlimited, inexhaustible power and provision of God; the anointing can catapult you to stardom from obscurity. (Isaiah 10:27) The yoke of debt and lack ended when her vessels were filled supernaturally from the throne room with the finest and choice oil in town. That was the end of her lack! From insolvency to plenty; yes! that is what the anointing can do in your life. In came the oil merchant. May Our God be blessed forever; who will not suffer His children to go hungry or beg for bread. My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in Glory by Christ Jesus. If He did it in the days of this widow, surely He is capable and will do it again. God will surprise you in these times, only be strong and very courageous. Be still and wait upon His anointing!
Arise today, pray over some virgin oil and anoint yourself, your family and see the supernatural hand of God come alive in your lives.
By the anointing, every yoke, even the yoke of economic recession and unproductiveness can be broken!
God bless.
